Pros of Wood Decking

Who doesn’t love the beautiful aesthetic that a good wood deck brings to the table? Decks can be built out of wood and stained, treated, and/or painted. This means if you want the wood to show you can do that if you want it painted a solid color to match the house, you can do that, as well. Even if it is not painted, the wood can be very light featuring that bright light coloring that many people love or you can stain it for a darker more beautifully aged look.

We can provide either of them for you and more!

What About Cedar?

Cedarwood decking is a very popular option. The deep red is beautiful, natural cedar looks stunning and the swirls provide a unique look with each and every deck as patterns vary. Good cedar decking tends to be naturally water-resistant which also helps it to be rot-resistant, as well. This means when the cedar lies flat and straight and it stays that way, as well.

This is a popular option, but it will require yearly cleaning and you’ll want to reseal it every year or two. The cost is more than most other wood types (more than pressure-treated wood, as well) but generally is going to be a little cheaper than composite options. Cedar decks do need to be replaced about every 15-20 years.

Pressure Treatment Wood Options

If you want a wood deck that lasts longer and requires less maintenance but still looks good, pressure-treated wood is a great way to go. This can be a viable option and you can count on our professionals to only use high quality treated wood. No shrinking, no twisting, no warping – we only use the best wood right off the bat.

These do cost more but you get fewer knots, a better grain, and these will look a lot better both with and without stain. These decks might not have quite the beauty of a new cedar deck, but they look great 10 or 20 years or later, which is not true of cedar decks.
